My First Post! And It's Animation Time!

Hello everyone! I am so excited to welcome you all to my blog! Maybe a bit too excited? Just a little bit? Any how... In this first post I will be covering animation!!! I will start by presenting snippets of my upcoming work, this month I will be participating for the first time in the "11 Second Club" animation challenge, (slightly nervous) it is a monthly competition where upcoming animators show their skills and the winner gets a chance to have his work reviewed by an "Animation Mentor" pro. The thought of it just blows my mind...

When starting an animation first thing I do is prep work, that includes: research, analyze sound file (if required) and choose the characters. For this month's competition I will be using the character "Space Duck" created by Long Winter Studios.

After writing down the basic idea of my animated vision it is time for... Reference! Reference! Reference! A very useful and important part as it will save me a lot of time when production time comes around.

When the first part of prep work is complete we can dive into our program of choice; I will be using Maya 2017.

Once in the software my first step is to create what would be the starting block out of my scene so that the elements that may affect the animation are placed right from the start; preventing many problems in the future. First: I set up the environment, Second: Bring characters into the scene, Third: Set my cameras and last but not least: Set up the basic lighting.

Here is the first pass of my scene set up; this helps establish the direction of the shot and minimize the amount of future changes (saving time and effort).

In the next post I will be showing the first block out passes of the animation, so come back soon! And remember to leave your feedback!
